Our soldiers operate, maintain, and fight one of the
most formidable weapon systems on earth, the M1A1 Abrams
Main Battle Tank. The tank weighs in at approximately
124,000 lbs. Combat loaded. It uses a 1500 horsepower gas
turbine (jet) engine. It can obtain kills at approximately
3800 meters with a muzzle velocity of over a mile per
second. The tank has a crew of four, so teamwork is the

Bio: SSG Ernest D. Nicholson.
I am a graduate of Connellsville Area High School and enlisted into the PA Army National Guard 22 July 1986.
I attended Basic Training at Ft. Jackson, SC and Advanced Individual Training (job skill) at
Ft. Gordon, GA, 31K Combat Signaler, and I graduated
Distinguished Honor Grad on 01 October 1994 and transitioned into a 19K Armored
Crewman/ Gunner. I was Qualified Distinguished Gunnery 1996, score 903 out of
1000. On 26 May 1999 I joined the Recruiting and Retention force
stationed in Somerset, PA. I obtained Master Recruiting Badge in 3 years of
production and on 01 October 2002 transferred to Connellsville Area
recruiting station.
